Why Minds Matter?
When people hear the term health, they generally think of physical well being. But mental health is another sector which is just as important. Over the years, mental health has become a topic of discussion over media, and has caused discussions to arise. Over one-fourth of people will have some sort of disorder involving their mental well being, according to the World Health Organization, but because of the stigma on psychological illness, people may be less likely to seek help. Although everyone can be affected with these illnesses, students seem to deal with them the most. School provides students with the most stress, as society, parents, and education pressure teens into being the best in school, and these pressures lead to 39% of students dealing with mental illnesses. Teens have minds which do not fully develop until the age of 25, so they will react to stress differently than adults. With all of the information provided, we have taken a step forward to help high schoolers spread awareness and discuss topics including intellectual health. With this club, we are a step closer to bringing more recognition to mental health across the globe.
With that being said, our mission is to educate and raise awareness for mental health and illnesses, as well as ending the stigma around mental health itself. |
